Genesis Baroque is a vibrant Melbourne-based period instrument ensemble founded by Artistic Director, Jennifer Kirsner, and directed by renowned violinist Lucinda Moon. The ensemble comprises some of Australia’s finest historically-informed performers, and aims to explore the spontaneity, imagination, and richness of music from the 17th and 18th century.

Moon brings her wealth of experience and energy to the ensemble, crafting a refined, emotive, and expressive approach to the repertoire, and providing audiences with deeply moving, engaging performance experiences.

The ensemble collaborates with renowned soloists based locally, interstate and overseas, and has a particular focus on providing a platform for Australian soloists, both local and expatriate, to perform for Victorian audiences.

Genesis Baroque is a rich addition to the Melbourne’s diverse and lively arts scene – a distinguished, locally-based period chamber orchestra at the forefront of the genre.

Genesis Baroque will produce three concerts in its inaugural 2018 series. The first, the Baroque Opera Gala at the Peninsula Summer Music Festival, will be our official launch. A rich program of French baroque masters will be directed by visiting French director and harpsichordist, Martin Gester, and we will be joined by the renowned mezzo-soprano, Lotte Betts-Dean.

Our second concert, ‘La Serenissima’, takes us to 18th-century Venice to explore the trials and tribulations of love in a program of Vivaldi and his contemporaries. Directed by Lucinda Moon, this program will also showcase a number of the fine soloists within Genesis Baroque’s core players

For our final concert for 2018, ‘Helyard’s Bach’, we are joined by the irrepressible harpsichordist and director, Erin Helyard for a program by J.S. Bach’s two eldest sons, featuring CPE Bach’s captivating keyboard concerto in D Minor, H.427.

Donations will enable us to present our concerts by covering the costs of performers, and venue hire, and production overheads. We are committed to values of respect and integrity, both of which underpin our commitment to our players and to our audience. These values mean that we are committed to appropriate remuneration for our core artists and guest directors. Our values also assure that we will provide concert experiences of uncompromising scholarship, elegance, vivacity, and creativity.
