Sydney is a vibrant, dynamic and diverse city, yet people with mental health issues often find themselves marginalised.

Fools’ Gold artists will challenge stigma and encourage respectful, critical conversations around mental health and well-being. This is an experimental, pilot project that will develop into a larger, ongoing national and international collaboration between artists, universities and the mental-health-care sector. Your donations contribute to the making of high-quality art, and a more equal and inclusive society.

Donations will contribute to payment of our artists’ fees, return airfares for three interstate artists, five days accommodation for three interstate artists, food and local transport. We will pay for event marketing and promotions, and editing costs for a 15 minute film of Ken Canning.

Outlandish Arts is a disability-led, not-for-profit arts organisation.

We forge pathways that foster and expand the capacity of Australian artists to create art that transforms society. We shift the conditions that limit artist and audience access to the wider possibilities of creative expression and representation.

We develop, promote and tour high-quality art with a focus on artists who do not have equal access to sustainable creative pathways and artistic platforms, especially Deaf and Disabled artists.

Our achievements include the production of NoRMAL, a series of performances of stories by four artists on their experiences of disability performed at Arts Activated in 2014, Emerging Writers Roadshow, NSW Writers Centre, and Lakemba Senior Citizens’ Centre, the March 2016 Australian tour of Caroline Bowditch’s acclaimed, dance-theatre piece, ‘Falling in Love with Frida’, and the Australia-UK creative development of Deaf Australian playwright, Sofya Gollan’s new play, ‘MotherLode’, London, September 2016.

Outlandish Arts contributes to raising the aspirations of Australian artists and the quality of Australian art.
