Capturing that sense of magic that lives in every child during those special and awkward years of teenagehood, Fish Head tells the story of young Nahla and their personal journey of discovery into who they are and how they fit into the world. Nahla begins to question their sense of self as their body enters puberty and begins a transformation from girl to fish.
The genesis of Fish Head came about during last year’s difficult time of adversity for the LGBTIQ community. I felt a strong urge for more diverse stories in cinema with the added hope of bringing some positivity and magic onto screens. Our young protagonist Nahla feels a disconnect between how they feel inside and how the world thinks they should be.
I hope that this short film can begin a dialogue in challenging what is considered the norm, bring a celebration of creative expression to screens and help people realise we don’t all have to try and fit within the boxes that society defines us by. This film is about coming to terms with your most authentic self… in this case a fishy-Bowie-loving-gender-non-conforming-teen.
Nahla’s story is waiting to be told but we need your help to bring it to life!
With the funds raised we are looking to put the money towards our amazing award winning prosthetics team at Odd Studios to transform young Nahla from girl to fish, creating our sleepy coastal town through production design and costumes as well as supporting our production with camera/lighting hire, locations fees and feeding our crew.
We will begin shooting in early 2018 with the intention of premiering by early/mid-2018. For updates please follow us on our Facebook Page.
With your help our brilliant creative team can’t wait to make this film!
