Every two years a dedicated group of artists and community volunteers from the western side of South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula host Festival Fleurieu.
In 2017 the communities of the Fleurieu Coast (Yankalilla district) will once again celebrate our burgeoning community of creative artists. Our resident community of 4,500 souls swells threefold as the festival brings the holiday season to life with imagination and creativity.

Festival Fleurieu is a multi-award winning celebration of identity. It is about valuing the arts and promoting their special place at the heart of community life. Thanks to the imaginations and talents of local artists we see our place afresh through the eyes of others – our identity as a local community. We invite young and old to join us for inspiration – and for fun!
Every festival program presents both curated and artist-initiated events – music, dance, word, painting and sculpture, quilters, foodies, photographers and thinkers.
Our volunteer board and many community volunteers can’t do it alone. We need your help to make our 2017 Festival Fleurieu an even bigger and better success by donating through the Australian Cultural Fund.

How will your donation be used?
Artists invest countless hours and materials in making and presenting their art. Your donations help the festival to keep the costs of participation for artists to a minimum.
So much of our festival is free to access, so your donations help to run youth arts programs, to commission public art and to ensure equitable access for the community and visitors through free events.
We are a not-for-profit association and we are building sustainability. Every dollar donated helps ensure our future is bigger and better!

Festival Fleurieu is an award-winning biennial celebration based on the Fleurieu Coast, a region that reaches across the entire Yankalilla region. From Myponga in the North to Cape Jervis in the southwest and including Second Valley, Wirinna Cove, Deep Creek, Delamere, Normanville, Carrickalinga, Lady Bay and Rapid Bay, this festival embraces and promotes the entire community and invites participation by people of all ages.

A hard-working board and a phalanx of dedicated volunteers combine with a burgeoning local community of artists, local businesses and their friends, from within the community and beyond, to provide a rich program of experiences ranging from popular live entertainment to deeper and more thought-provoking content.

Formerly known as The Leafy Sea Dragon Festival, Festival Fleurieu is produced by a wholly volunteer grass-roots incorporated association. Chaired by former Arts SA supremo and well-known ideas wrangler, Greg Mackie OAM, and ably supported by fellow board members: Joy Whellum, Jo-Anne Rowe, Chris Rann, Jane Mitchell and Jillian Langford – the association is passionate about the role of art and the arts in a good life.

The event is part open-platform and part curated. It relies on fund-raising and the ‘kindness of strangers’ so that most of the festival program can be either very affordable or free to the public.

The recipient of three significant awards in 2015-16, Festival Fleurieu is regional festival-making at its very best. It comes from the community and is proudly for the community, their families, friends and visitors alike.
