A tonne of clothing, otherwise destined for landfill, has been salvaged and a ‘Fast Fashun’ wonderland in a giant cube behind the Arts Centre is waiting for you to explore.
Designers, crafters and art makers are on hand to help you resurrect an ensemble and a runway show will happen every hour on the hour.
After 3 sell out events at VAMFF, Tenfingerz is joining forces with Famous Artist Sebastian Berto to bring to life this free to the public experience as part of the Arts Program.
We want to cover the production costs of such an endeavour and we are asking for your help!
Under the banner of the Melbourne Fashion Festival we have an incredible opportunity to use art as a tool for social change and get the message of the perils of fast fashion out to consumers who attend the festival.
However, runway shows don’t come cheap, even DIY ones. We have been funding these shows through ticket sales for years. In 2017, Tenfingerz received a small grant but since then we have not been able to secure funding and have consequently not been able to put on a show.
We don’t want to let institutions with money be the gatekeepers of when we make and showcase art. With the help of our community we want to continue to showcase underground queer art in the mainstream fashion festival context.
DIY OR DIE!
Our aim is to raise $5000.
This will cover:
Marketing $1500
Photography and video documentation $1000
Costumes $600
Sewing, craft and building materials $500
Truck hire $600 (to pick up/drop off opshop waste)
Tip fees $200 (for left over waste)
Fashion festival fee $100
Admin/Misc/Overheads $500
Anything over this will go towards more elaborate levels of art making… such as a live feed of the runway shows.
The end result will be an interactive and fun educational space where everyone, of all skill levels, feels welcome to participate and learn.
