We are a group of First Year Fine Art students at QCA, with a diverse range of experience and artistic backgrounds.
This year our studies have challenged us to question self through our practices. The works chosen are a mix of ex studio art made in our own personal practice, and works created for assessment during first year. Our personal practice works exemplify our preferred style and mediums, while our studio works challenge these expectations. This showcases the evolution of our artistic styles and mediums as we navigate the questions of what our strongest mediums are, what our place in the art world is, and how our art can be used as a voice for positive change and impact in the world.
Our QCA works are made to fit our assigned themes ‘Self and Subject’, and ‘Representation and Illusion’. These themes are relevant to the evolution of our practices, as we begin to consider what our art represents, how may we represent it, and how it may be true to or express self. Although the works operate under the same themes, the way in which this is interpreted is individual to each artist.
This exhibition is the first step for a lot of us in exploring our careers as exhibiting artists – we want to make it the absolute best show we can!
As uni students, we don’t have a lot of funding to make this happen, so we are reaching out to our community to help us launch this event with a huge boost to our artistic careers leading into 2020!
Donations will be used to cover the marketing costs of the event, as well as catering and drinks for the opening and closing nights, meals for our volunteer staff running the exhibition daily, as well as creating high quality prints of the artworks for the exhibiting artists to sell to kick off their professional journey.
The exhibition runs from Tuesday 17th of September to Saturday 28th September, with our launch night on Saturday 21st September.
If we raise enough funds to cover a second event, we will have a closing event to give thanks to our community and faculty for support, and thank each of our peers for joining with us to create this show.
You can find out more about the launch night, see WIPs from our exhibiting artists and features for the artists on the EX/STUDIO Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as the QCA Galleries Facebook page.
