ENCOUNTER is raising funds to launch a new theatre company in an exciting new era of performance. Our goal is to be Australia’s leading multicultural theatre company by 2025.
We are seeking donors who share our vision to bring untold and captivating stories to the world.
The ensemble is made up of diverse artists who draw inspiration from their lived & shared experiences. They value their self-determination & ability to create opportunities using innovative techniques & devices. Their stories, rooted in their community, emerge to create empathy & to develop & nurture a new relationship with the audience.
Our audiences are our co-creators who engage in robust dialogue with the performance. The stories that unfold on the stage reflect the community we live in. We aim to broaden the perspective of traditional theatre audiences & make theatre works that attract audiences as diverse as the stories we tell.
ENCOUNTER is fresh, young, ambitious & ready to welcome co-creators. Philanthropic support will lay the foundations for the growth of the company to bring the stories we create together to the stage.
It is uniquely placed to tell real stories, largely invisible to the public & fill a gap in Australian theatre.
The company is building a database of professional performing artists & arts workers across genres who identify as culturally & linguistically diverse, are intergenerational & intercultural, to give their stories a voice from grass roots to mainstage.
ENCOUNTER will be launched at the World Premier of Children of the Sea on 10th February 2021 in collaboration with Performing Lines & Perth Festival 2021. Future partnerships of this kind open a new world of possibilities for these organisations to explore.
Join us as a philanthropic supporter to develop these projects at the beginning of their creative journey & to share our success.
ENCOUNTER, established as a sustainable Australian theatre company that truly reflects our community & tells our stories in a raw, uncompromising way through an engaging & entertaining artform will be our success.
It will hold a mirror to our community to reflect the breadth of our diversity, to offer space, agency & voice to stories that are authentic & part of the Australian story. Our projects will celebrate uniqueness & difference by making differences visible so we can see & nurture the strengths of all people.
Your gift will enable ENCOUNTER to deconstruct what it means to be culturally & linguistically diverse, away from being the subject of discussion, to explore issues that are relevant to us & our audiences. You will contribute to future development, ability to tour projects like Children of the Sea, commission new works & provide professional development pathways for diverse artists.
