Community Arts & Cultural Development

ElectroCities is a three-part online net.art Residency program and lecture series connecting artists and audiences all over the world through the Internet.

Days Left

The ElectroCities Online Residency program aims to expand the accessibility and credibility of net-based artwork in Australia. We believe net.art provides unique opportunities for innovative art practice and audience participation. ElectroCities will act as the first online residency of its kind in Sydney and has the potential to strengthen Australia’s cultural identity in an International, borderless domain.

What will it look like?

Each residency will involve the creation of an interactive artwork to be hosted on our website.

The culmination of the residency period will be a physical exhibition with an accompanying series of lectures in which academics, writers and audiences can discuss themes and contemporary issues related to the work. ElectroCities is proudly sponsored by Young Henry’s Brewery.

We have curated a lineup of Sydney-based and international artists to create a total of four web installations:
– EJ Son (NSW)
– Edison Chen (NSW)
– sharingturtle (Laura Hyunjhee Kim and Libi Rose Striegl) (USA)
– Evan Meaney (USA)

Why online?

The advantages of online exhibition lie in the opportunity it provides artists to reach new audiences and the highly interactive experience it offers the viewer. Through the Internet, audiences can enjoy interactive art with people in their bedrooms, bathrooms, on buses and at beaches without disturbing the neighbours!

Why should I support this project?

Electrofringe’s creative rationale has remained constant over the past 21 years. As an organisation, we focus on providing an exhibition platform for emerging artists whereby they can push their work to new and exciting places. Our aim is to be the most groundbreaking platform for experimental and radical projects in Sydney. We believe net.art is an important medium for contemporary artists to share their work in a borderless domain.

Plus, all Australian donations over $2 are tax deductible!

Where will the money go?

As our programs are free, we require funding to deliver a professional and nurturing environment for all involved. Donations will cover materials, venue hire, technology, documentation and marketing for our lecture series. Additionally, your generosity will support all artists involved.
