This project and opportunity will unfold like so: This year on the 16th of June, a collective of beautiful, talented and inspiring people will be jetting off to perform a constructed performance season titled ‘Differently Equal’. The choreographers involved include: Michael Whaites, Emma Fishwick, Tobiah Booth-Remmers, and Ori Flomin. This tour will last until the 13th of July and the two confirmed venues that we will be performing in include Amsterdam’s Vondel Park Openluchttheater, in the Netherlands, and Montpellier’s Danse Festival in France.
To travel in a company such as LINK, guided by artistic director Michael Whaites, is an opportunity to be recognized, no time during this tour to be taken for granted. We predict and look forward to experiencing physical exhaustion whilst participating in workshops by established artists in the free periods between performances; these workshops include programs such as The Henny Jurriens Foundation, B12 in Berlin, and an intensive at Ballet National Marseille.
Through this study tour abroad LINK Dance Company members will: expand movement knowledge through diverse choreographic processes; enhance performance skills through exposure to a variety of venues and performance environments; and attain working knowledge of the logistics of performance and touring.
Through a company such as LINK, students learn to articulate the significance of personal and group expression and communicate this to the surrounding communities they perform and engage with. Dance causes people to feel, and emotions are powerful. LINK dancers are grounded, smart, articulate and visibly fit people who work hard, day in and day out to perfect their craft and share this passion with people who donate their most precious currency, time. Dance is an art form precious to those who fall for it; the beauty, dedication, motivation, loving nature and sense of community it forms acts as a beacon to those who rarely see a glimmer of such a thing.
This tour is funded by the students involved, we only ask for a minuscule fraction of contribution to assist and promote the LINK name. Donations through ACF will be distributed amongst the 17 members of the LINK Dance Company to assist with the expected costs as part of a Europe Tour. The expenses that are to be covered by ourselves as full-time students include, an overseas ticket, accommodation and workshop intensive costs- this refers to those of us attending career altering intensives and projects. This tour and the interstate tour during November allow us to maintain, support and promote LINK, the graduate dance company, whilst appealing, engaging and performing to the wider community who invest and donate their care, witnessing eyes and genuine emotion to any display of expression.
