“… polished, beautifully made series from director/producer Sally McLean … a fine use of the platform and, more importantly, a very fine adaptation of the Bard … Shakespeare Republic is put together with grace and wit. An assortment of actors do terrific work making the (non-dumbed down) dialogue accessible, prying it open with great care and skill.”
– THE GUARDIAN on Shakespeare Republic

“Dark Arcadia” is the latest instalment in the universe of the internationally award-winning Australian web series “Shakespeare Republic” (starring Nadine Garner, Michala Banas, Alan Fletcher, Christopher Kirby & Dean Haglund among others) and the follow-up project to the award-winning short film “Speaking Daggers” (starring Nadine Garner, Michala Banas, Scott Major, Christopher Kirby & more), helmed by critically acclaimed actor/writer/director, Sally McLean, featuring some of Australia’s favourite screen actors and a wide array of up-and-coming young talent ready to debut on the world stage.

“… incredibly clever and highly addictive …”
– MADE IN MELBOURNE FILM FESTIVAL

This new addition to the “Shakespeare Republic” universe is set within a high school, utilising the perspective of the younger generation, featuring talented drama students & graduates playing alongside professional actors. It is a culturally diverse, female-driven mini web series set in 21st Century Melbourne, featuring some of Shakespeare’s most iconic characters. Using his undiluted, original words, we journey into human relationships and their consequences with a touch of magic realism and a lot of food for thought. Drawing on inspiration from current world events mixed with Elizabethan text that shows us Shakespeare was ahead of his time and is still truly relevant, “Dark Arcadia” ultimately shows us that sometimes the adults don’t have all the answers and the way those in power behave IS important.

This mini-series will lead into a much larger Shakespeare project set in a related world – Season Three of “Shakespeare Republic”, which is an Ozflix Original series.

“… taking the world by storm, done in an inventive, captivating way … the entire series is astonishingly smart.”
