Dangerous Song is a collaboration between Linsey Pollak and Lizzie O’Keefe. It is our response to the current 6th Extinction Crisis and it’s a Song for the Planet. It combines human voice with the sounds of endangered and extinct animals.

After 3 years of working together and the creation of two albums and two Multimedia shows we want to move onto the next stage in our Dangerous Song journey and look at using new modes of visual projection (including Projection Mapping). These projected images will now more strongly align with the sounds that are being played at that moment so that the animals whose sounds are being used are represented visually. We plan to use multiple projectors, and screens that include the natural landscape as well as our bodies and costumes.

Later this year we will broaden our work in the Natural World by working on a project about communication between plants (as ‘Artists in Residence’ in Utrecht, Holland). We will explore the creation of music that responds to the electromagnetic variations between the surface of plant leaves and their root system. To do this we want to purchase a ‘BambooM’ which is a device that uses a MIDI interface to transform the impedance from a leaf to the root system of a plant into music.

Our project has an important message which speaks directly to the heart in a way that words cannot. It is important for us all to unite and make big changes to our current ways, so through our music we want to spread awareness and help generate a love for this beautiful planet and all it’s inhabitants.

We need to raise $9000. This will allow us to: purchase a short throw DLP projector; BambooM midi interface; contract a projection mapper; and contract a videographer and photographer to create visual documentation. This will enable us to take Dangerous Song to the next level, giving more opportunity for national and international touring, allowing us to spread this important message far and wide.

Lizzie is a dynamic and commanding vocal artist and a versatile, innovative performer. Studying opera, classical and jazz from an early age, Lizzie has developed a completely unique signature style with a wide vocal range, strong improvisational skills and enjoys experimenting with many different styles.

Over the years she has recorded and performed in Australia, Indonesia and the UK. Whilst living in Indonesia she formed the duo Paramitsha, releasing a self-titled EP in 2013.

Now based on the Sunshine Coast, Lizzie released her Leaden Heart EP (2014), with the title track making her a finalist in the 2015 Queensland Music Awards.

Inspired by a collaboration with Ben Walsh in 2016, Lizzie is now currently working on a solo project called Lila, where she composes songs using her voice as an instrument.

In 2015 she teamed up with Linsey Pollak, forming Dangerous Song. This duo has created two works: ‘Dangerous Song – black’ and ‘Dangerous Song – blue’. Both these one hour performances evoke an emotional connection and response about the current Sixth Extinction Crisis, inspiring understanding, love and hopefully action. Dangerous Song is currently touring nationally and internationally and released their debut album in Oct 2016.
