Cassandra is a Match Lab 2018 project. Creative Partnerships Australia will match every dollar donated.
Cassandra will be a work of about half an hour in length, in three movements, and will be music in response to the global climate crisis. I will select one poem about global warming as inspiration and base my harmonic language upon this words.
Cassandra will be premiered by Monica Curro and Stephan Cassomenos at the Melbourne Recital Centre Salon on 3 Feb 2019.
The remainder of the concert program will consist of new vocal music setting the poetry of Bella Li (2018 Premiere’s Literary Award Winner – Poetry) to be performed by mezzo-soprano Alexandra Matthew.
Each work will be recorded prior to the premiere and the resulting albums will be launched at the concert.
This project is important because it draws together some of the finest artists Melbourne has to offer to collaborate and speak to, arguably, the ultimate social of our time. The collaboration team, Stefan, Monica, Alexandra, Bella and I, are a diverse group of artists whose collective experience will ensure this project succeeds in its goals of discussing important ideas and creating timeless aesthetic experiences..
Socially, I believe this project is important because artist have a duty to contribute to advocate for important social change, and through this work I aim to draw attention to the necessity for immediate action on unsustainable climate change.
Donations made to this project will be used for:
1. the composition of the works
2. the payment of artists fees for the premiere and the recordings
3. promotional activities around the premiere including promotion of the recordings on radio.
Each dollar donated through this campaign will be matched by Creative Partnerships Australia (up to $10,000).
