In partnership with the Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s Composing Women Program, SCO presents a digital World Premiere quadruple bill of their new one-act operas.
In late March-early April SCO was due to perform the world premiere of four new operas by emerging female composers in the Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s groundbreaking ‘Composing Women’ Programme as part of SCO’s residency at Carriageworks. These works had been developed by SCO since mid 2018 and represent a significant contribution to new operas created in Australia by female composers. The Composing Women program was specifically developed to target early-career female composers to prevent their disappearance from the musical landscape.
However, like many arts institutions, SCO had to cancel the public premiere of Breaking Glass due to coronavirus restrictions. In good news, the production was advanced enough to be able to make a fully documented video, audio recording and photo gallery of the entire show. SCO has decided to produce a streamable premiere of this quadruple bill.
Editing, syncing and streaming these works to the quality they deserve takes significant time and resources and you can help us support this initiative.
In an unstable environment where the performing arts (like so many others) are struggling, this is as a positive way to create new audiences online, and to present the work of these four exceptional composers!
