We give music learning, performing and recording opportunities to young people in the Big Scrub Rainforest area of regional Northern NSW who are disadvantaged by socio-economics or geography.

Our programs also give young people a platform to express their feelings and ideas about social and environmental issues in the areas in which they live.

And the Big Scrub Orchestra was the first and only group of primary school aged children to perform their original songs at the Byron Bay International Bluesfest.

This fundraiser will enable Artistic Director Amanda Dumesny to travel to the Little Kids Rock modern band summit in the USA. (July 29th – August 1st 2019; www.littlekidsrock.org/mbsummit

Lilttle Kids Rock is supported by Carlos Santana and many other artists, to give all kids the chance to easily learn popular music in a fun way.

Amanda will learn innovative techniques to teach rock, blues, hip-hop, electronic music, modern band instruments, and ‘music as a second language’ to directly benefit music programs coming up this year for disadvantaged young people in regional NSW, Australia.

We will create our own real life School of Rock!

Amanda will also meet up with Found Sound Nation in New York to learn about the innovative music recording techniques they’re using with low socio-economic schools in New York, and other projects across the globe, to use in projects starting soon back home in Australia. (July 15th – 19th www.foundsoundnation.org)

Amanda has been working on music projects with young people in the Big Scrub for the past eight years, bringing enormous benefits to young people by increasing self-esteem, improving engagement with school and community, highlighting environmental and social issues, and experiencing the joy of creating music in a group.

These professional development opportunities with Little Kids Rock and Found Sound Nation are desperately needed by The Big Scrub Orchestra to improve and update our programs and offerings for young people.

They will help to introduce cutting edge music teaching techniques and technologies, to make learning and creating music fun.

Donations will pay for flights, conference registration and accommodation.

You can follow the progress of the young people and our music projects at www.facebook.com/thebigscrub

Thanks so for much for your help to support the little Big Scrub kids to rock out.
