Endangered Production’s intoxicating interpretation of JS Bach’s ‘Coffee Cantata’ was due to delight audiences in Sydney before the COVID-19 crisis hit. We want to bring this joyous music to fire and drought affected communities in NSW.
Areas of regional NSW were devastated by fires and drought and are now impacted by the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic. Members of the Endangered Production team come from the drought affected Gloucester and Goulburn areas and the fire affected Manning Valley and South Coast. We know the resilience that rural communities have to pull together in moments of crisis.
Our production is a very flexible, accessible entertainment providing an environment where audiences can ‘eat, drink and be merry’ – something that comes naturally to many in the country. But these heart-breaking natural disasters have made social engagement difficult, if not impossible. We can provide the cultural catalyst for rural communities to come together to enjoy an uplifting social celebration.
What is the Coffee Cantata?
In 1734 JS Bach wrote this secular cantata about the temptation and power of coffee – a growing fad in Leipzig. An irate father admonishes his coffee-addicted daughter and tries to forbid her going to the local bar. Who will win?
Our contemporary take will be performed by three soloists accompanied by a talented chamber ensemble. A new translation combined with intimate staging will entertain audiences of all ages and musical tastes. The addition of fascinating excerpts from Grieg’s ‘Peer Gynt’ ensures a rich, engaging cultural experience for all.
We perform in private homes or local community spaces creating a relaxed, congenial social event while providing exceptional entertainment. We will be able to tour as soon as the COVID crisis allows.
We are reaching out to offer you a unique opportunity to support this project. ‘Bach to the the Bush’ is supported by Creative Partnerships Australia through ACF Boost, which will match your donation dollar for dollar up to $5,000 – and all donations are tax deductible.
Donations will be used to provide salaries, transport and accommodation for our touring team of eleven professional singers and musicians. We want to keep admission prices for our audiences to a minimum while paying our professional performers who have been hard-hit by the COVID crisis. Your financial support will help bring enjoyment to devastated rural communities and provide employment for performers.
We would like to recognise all donors in our performance programs and include a message from you to show our rural community they are not alone. Donors will also be kept informed about the tour with updates and visuals to include you in the project.
