Anoesis is a band formed in late 2016 is a group of composer-improvisers who met through the music degree at the University of New South Wales. The group’s sound is complex and spontaneous, at times powerful and intense, at times subtle and intimate.

Anoesis takes its influence from the American Jazz tradition from bebop to modern styles, while also drawing from the rich history of Australian jazz, especially that of their mentors and teachers. Anoesis also incorporates sounds from electronica, world music, modern classical, rock and hip-hop. Throughout late 2018, the band recorded their debut full-length album ‘The Hermit’, which is scheduled for release in mid-2019.

Anoesis has been accepted to compete and perform at the 13th Annual Bucharest Jazz Competition in Romania taking place from the May 11-18 2019. This involves performing in concerts, attending workshops and participating in jam sessions with other musicians from around the world. This is a huge opportunity and learning experience for us as a band and as individuals.

This project gives the opportunity for a group of young Australian jazz musicians to perform and compete, representing Australia on the international stage, with 17 bands of over 12 different nationalities. This opens up opportunities for friendship, cross cultural connections and collaborations to take place on the trip and also into the future. This will be a monumental learning experience for all members of the band who wish to continue as musicians on the Australian music scene, performing, recording, releasing music and teaching.

The funds received from your kind donations will be used to cover the basic travel costs of air fairs, accommodation and insurance. This will give us the opportunity to live out our dreams, traveling internationally to play music, something which would not be possible without your support. In the event of us winning or placing in the competition, earnings will be used to fund the recording, production and touring of Anoesis’s debut album “The Hermit” set to be relased mid-late 2019.

Anoesis will be playing a Bucharest Trip Fundraising concert at UNSW on the 27th March.
