For many of us, music is one of the few passions we are able to indulge in alongside the busy schedule of medical school. Yet as we endure long days in hospitals and grow accustomed to the emotionally draining lives of doctors, it becomes tempting to retire our bows and reeds in exchange for tendon hammers and stethoscopes.
Music has the power to improve mental health and wellbeing. It serves as an outlet for stress, an opportunity to express ourselves creatively and a reminder of the colourful life outside the hospital walls.
AMSO was therefore founded to provide this outlet for medical students around Australia, bringing them together for a weekend of intense rehearsals to culminate in a concert in May 2020. This year, in line with our passion for using music to benefit both medical student wellbeing and the wider community, AMSO will be partnering with Beyond Blue and Zonta House, a group dedicated to supporting women experiencing domestic and family violence. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to these organisations.
Your contribution will not only go towards the essential production costs for the orchestra, but also allow us to maintain affordable registration fees and ensure that AMSO is an accessible opportunity for all medical students.
