Australian culture is as broad and varied as the country’s unique landscape. The concept of A Sunburnt Country is to discover how an artist’s cultural background and sense of identity influences their artistic output, and to promote Australian art, especially music, on an international scale.
The premiere is a fusion of music, dance and literature, and showcases both existing and new Australian artworks.
A Sunburnt Country, created by Belgium-based Australian flutist Maddilyn Goodwin, is an arts project which explores themes that shape Australia’s identity. The content is diverse, political, and represents many facets of Australian life. This project is for emerging Australian artists who especially want to explore their unique Australian voice in their work. The concerts benefit the cultural scene in the cities that we reach, offering a unique experience and opening up potential partnerships between Australian and international musicians.
This concept will become on-going concert series and recording project, engaging different young artists for each instalment. We endeavour to contribute to and encourage NEW art, and to provide a platform from which that art can be shared. The art draws on Australian traditions and values and is shared globally.
We believe in the promotion and growth of Australian art; supporting this project supports the growth of the Australian cultural landscape and ensures the project’s longevity, allowing us to engage more artists.
This campaign is aimed at bringing the project home for the Australian premiere, and donations contribute to commission costs, artist wages, performance and production costs, and technical costs.
The world premiere will take place in May, 2017 in Antwerp, Belgium, and the Australian premiere will be held afterwards in 2018.
