WA Poets Inc. (WAPI) was established in 2006 as a not-for-profit organisation. WAPI is run by volunteers and relies on membership, ticket and book sales, donations, sponsorship and grants to fund its activities. The Perth Poetry Festival is WAPI’s keynote event delivering on its mission to encourage, support and develop poets and poetry in Western Australia.
More than 1,000 people attended last year’s Festival. WAPI hopes to increase our audience with new poets, events and venues at #PPF2020. Your contribution will help us fund this goal and introduce even more people to the wonderful variety of verse in all its forms.
All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
WAPI strives to deliver innovative activities that represent Perth and Western Australia’s unique cultural identity.
A key goal is to liaise with national and international poets and poetry groups to form reciprocal arrangements. Through its program of readings and workshops presented by invited guests, WAPI not only promotes Australian work but offers opportunities for local poets to develop broad professional networks. These two-way relationships are especially important in helping to overcome the feeling of isolation sometimes experienced by the Western Australia writing community.
Each Festival features invited established and emerging international, national and local poets. In 2020, poets from USA, Victoria and Queensland will join three local poets.
With a program of readings, discussions and seminars the Festival offers many free or low-cost opportunities for poets and punters alike to discover and participate in Perth’s thriving spoken word/poetry scene.
Your donation will help the Perth Poetry Festival to:
• Raise awareness of WA poets and poetry
• Promote poets development and engagement
• Foster the public perception that poetry can be for everyone
The overall benefits of the Festival are similar to those of tourism in general however the Festival adds social as well as economic benefits. By providing opportunities for personal expression and creative development the Festival enhances the well-being of participants and the Perth community.
