Using the ACF to receive a grant or one-off gift

Do you have a major donor who has pledged to support your work with a significant gift? Or are you thinking of applying for a grant from a Trust or Foundation? Either way, the ACF can help.

Using the ACF to receive a grant or one-off gift.

In addition to public fundraising campaigns, the ACF can facilitate private campaigns for one-off gifts from an individual or organisation, as well as grant applications to Trusts and Foundations that require grantees to have DGR1 status. If either of those apply to you, read on to see what information the ACF needs from you and what you should keep in mind.

One-off gifts

If you have a donor who would like to give you a one-off gift, we have designed a streamlined campaign type to help facilitate this.

  • If you’re a newcomer to the ACF, welcome! You will need to register an Artist Profile on the platform to proceed.
  • From there, login to your Artist Dashboard, click ‘Create a new Project’ and select ‘I want to receive a one-off gift or grant’
  • Follow the prompts to fill in the information about your project. We appreciate that the donor already knows about the project so this can just be a brief description for the ACF team to assess if the project fulfils our eligibility criteria
  • Under ‘Grant/Payment Details’, please outline the details of the gift.

NB don’t include your banking details here. You will include them later when you look over and approve your grant agreement.

All one-off gift campaigns default to close at the end of that calendar month. If your donor needs longer to make their donation, let us know at hello@australianculturalfund.org.au and we can extend the campaign on your behalf.

Grant applications

If you would like to apply for a grant which requires DGR1 status, the ACF may be able to assist.

Firstly, keep in mind that every grant has its own eligibility criteria and requirements, so make sure that you check with the Trust or Foundation that they are happy to issue grants as a donation to the ACF (prior to any application deadline).  If they have questions about the ACF and how it works you can put them in touch with us to chat.

We also ask you to contact us before you apply so that we can ensure we will be able to receive the funds on your behalf.

The information we need to assess your application is:

  • The grant name and website link.
  • A 1-2 paragraph overview of your project (or a link to your current ACF project, if you are already fundraising for the work).
  • A sound and thorough budget, including the grant amount you are applying for.
  • Confirmation that you have read the grant’s guidelines.

If you are not registered as an Artist on the ACF, we ask you to provide:

  • Your ABN (or your auspice body ABN).
  • Confirmation that you fulfil the ACF’s eligibility criteria:
    • you are a practising artist or arts and cultural entity;
    • you are engaged in arts and cultural activities;
    • you will use a grant from the Australian Cultural Fund within Australia or for the benefit of Australia; and
    • you will use a grant from the Australian Cultural Fund for the designated and stated purpose.

We will come back to you asap to let you know if we have any questions and to confirm whether we can receive the funds on your behalf.

If your grant application is successful, firstly congratulations! Once you know the outcome, you can go ahead and create a project on the ACF to receive the grant funds. Simply follow the steps listed above to create your project, with one exception:

  • Page 3: under ‘Grant/Payment Details’, please outline the Trust/Foundation that you applied to. Don’t include your banking details here. You will include them later when you look over and approve your grant agreement.

NB – you don’t need to create a project for the grant until you have heard the outcome.

If you have any questions about the process, don’t forget you can always contact the ACF team at hello@australianculturalfund.org.au
