Rachel Perks is a freelance, Melbourne based performer and writer whose work investigates feminist futures through the lens of speculative fiction. Rachel has a long-standing creative partnership with Bridget Balodis under the newly titled company ‘Double Water Sign’. This year Rachel spent three months in New York City investigating downtown dramaturgy through the support of The Australia Council and the American Australian Association. In 2017 she travelled to Dublin to take part in ‘The Next Stage’ as part of Dublin Theatre Festival, wrote ‘Eyes’ for Sandpit and ‘MORAL PANIC’ to be staged later this year. She was also an artist in residence with Bridget Balodis at LAB-14 courtesy of City of Melbourne and Creative Spaces. In 2016, she contributed to ‘Schmaltz’ (Daniel Schlusser, Malthouse) as well as writing and performing in ‘GROUND CONTROL’ (Next wave 2016, Theatre Republic 2016). Earlier work includes co-writing Elbow Room’s ‘We Get It’ (NEON 2015, Powerhouse 2016) and writing and performing in ‘ANGRY SEXX’ (Melbourne Fringe) for which she was nominated for the Green Room Award for best independent writing and awarded the Melbourne Festival Discovery Award.
