Irene Barberis is a well-known Australian artist, born in London. Exhibiting 50 solo and 90 group exhibitions her work is shown and collected widely in Australia and internationally. She holds a PhD from Victoria University, an MA from the University of Melbourne VCA, and has received multiple prizes and commissions.
Barberis is an international curator and writer, and through her initiatives, Metasenta® and the Global Centre for Drawing has projects in the UK, USA, Middle East and Far East.
She commissioned the highly comprehensive publication on Australian drawing, “Contemporary Australian Drawing#1”, curating the accompanying travelling exhibition of 94 Australian artists, exhibited in London, New York and Florence at SACI in 2015. Co-Director of Gallery Langford120, Director of Metasenta Publications, and International Director of conferences and symposia, she is also a Senior Lecturer /researcher at RMIT University, Melbourne and Hong Kong and RMIT Design Research Institute.
She is collaborating with Professor David. E. Mainwaring [Swinburne University], Emerita Professor Michelle P. Brown [University of London], Professor Bernard J Muir [University of Melbourne] and Dr Janet McKenzie [University of Dundee].
