In 2012, Jamie Harding formed Gener8 Theatre in Mt Gambier in collaboration with accomplished actor, John Crouch. Gener8 is a professional collective dedicated to the development of original regional performance works that foster partnerships between regional and city-based artists.
Its mandate is to enhance the cultural lives of people living in the south east of SA and give voice to their stories.
Gener8 undertakes extensive community research that its team of outstanding artists collaboratively craft into immersive, multi-artform work featuring theatre, dance, music, projection and virtual reality.
Jamie and Gener8 members were key creatives on the work ‘Colour Darker than Black’ (aka ‘Black’) that won an Arts SA Ruby Award for Theatre Innovation, demonstrating the growing recognition of Gener8’s approach to embedding community engagement deeply within the devising process to drive the creation of an immersive audience experience. ‘Black’ received rave reviews and was presented in Goolwa during the National Regional Arts Conference, as well as having seasons in Mt Gambier and Bathurst.
The Gener8 team currently has two new works in development ‘Cold As Ice’ and ‘Selfie’.
