Yasmin is the Artistic Director for Foul Play Theatre and Associate Director for ActNow Theatre. For Foul Play Theatre Yasmin has directed all the company’s productions to date: the world premiere of JULIE by Holly Brindley, South Australian premiere of EURYDICE by Sarah Ruhl and a reworking of Shakespeare’s MACBETH. Yasmin is committed to championing cultural diversity on our stages and to authenticity of storytelling. Faced with the lack of cultural diversity in Adelaide’s pool of professional actors, Yasmin has bravely decided to return to her acting roots and perform in the lead role of YERMA.
All female line up of key collaborators: twice awarded Flinders University Young Playwrights Award winner Holly Brindley, director Nescha Jelk (State Theatre Company of South Australia’s Terrestrial and Tiny Brick’s Deluge), designer Meg Wilson (State Theatre Company of South Australia’s Terrestrial and Windmill Theatre’s Amphibian) and Alira McKenzie Williams (assistant director anticipated to be funded by Arts South Australia’s ATSI Individual Development).
Foul Play is dedicated to examining classic works, spanning from ancient mythology to 19th Century literature. Aiming to interrogate and reimagine these texts through a prism of modern feminism whilst championing cultural diversity, Foul Play creates work that is ambitious and experimental in both content and form.
