Roger Benedict

Conductor and viola player Roger Benedict is principal viola of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Artistic Director of the SSO’s acclaimed fellowship Program.

He has appeared as soloist with orchestras including the Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic and Ulster Orchestra and as conductor with the Sydney Symphony in subscription concerts at the Sydney Opera House and in special events.

He has a long history of working with emerging artists and has conducted and coached the Australian Youth Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra (UK) and the European Union Youth Orchestra.
He has made two highly acclaimed recital discs (Volupte, which was selected as one of the best 10 CDs of 2010 by classicalreview, and Voices in the Wilderness) and also a recording of Vaughan-Williams Flos Campi with the SSO, all released on the Melba label.
