The Australian Intervarsity Choral Societies Association (“AICSA”) is comprised of university choirs from across Australia. Some of our choirs have been working together since the 1950s.
AICSA is best known for overseeing the annual Australian Intervarsity Choral Festival, often known as IVCF (or sometimes just “IV”) which has been running every year since our first festival in Sydney in 1950. The festival is the first non-competitive choral festival for university students in the world and is still one of the few such festivals in existence. A highlight of the choral calendar in Australia, choristers gather for one or two weeks of intensive rehearsals leading up to a major performance; venues have included many concerts in the Sydney Opera House and most capital cities’ arts centres & town halls.
AICSA is also involved in growing choral performance & choral composition around Australia, through working with our choirs to promote choral music to incoming and current university students (and plenty of former students & members of the community). We aim to promote communication and collaboration between our choirs, as well as any university or tertiary institution choirs.
